Message from the designer of this map
Hi! I am Yuki Mizuki.
I have a design company in Kyoto, and my clients are craft studios and artisans who need support for web design, printed matters, etc.
I have met many amazing craft artisans through my business.
Eventually I have started to work with an American company which send groups of people to Kyoto. The groups from the company doesn't just go to famous tourist spots, they visit a lot of craft studios, such as Nishijin-ori weaving and Kyo-Yuzen Kimono studios.
People are always surprised to see the precise and beautiful craft works of Kyoto, and I am also surprised to see people from foreign countries being so excited to see something that Kyoto people take for granted.
Visiting many craft studios with the guests, I have noticed one thing.
While traveling with them mostly by taxi, people experience a loss of direction and wonder "Where in the city am I now?" , and in order to avoid that situation, I thought putting a map with "You are here" sign in each studio will help.
However, I could not find any nice design Kyoto city map that I would ask people to put on their wall all the time.
So, I designed one!
I like it a lot, and I think this map goes well on many walls of business facilities in Kyoto, such as cafe, hotels and shops. It can also be a nice survenir from Kyoto.
So I printed a lot of copies.
I am giving the map for anyone who wants it for free, but on one condition.
Please pick it up physically at my design studio which is located inside of a traditional dyehouse in Kyoto.
It is a dyehouse with 100 years of history, and they dye Kamon on Noren and Maku curtains.
Please come to see the traditional works of craftsmen, and feel the history of the dyehouse while picking up the map.
If you like the map and want one, please call me (Yuki) beforehand.
You can find details on the top page.
